Many thanks to those of you who were able to come out last Thursday to our event at OVELIA in Astoria!

We were able to raise $$$ for the fire victims from the raffle thanks to your generous participation. Congratulations to our raffle winner Angela Kamisakis!

Of course, we could not boast of such a successful event without our gracious hosts at OVELIA, who also gifted our organization with a per person donation for each of our guests.

Thousand thanks, as they say in Greek, and may your generosity be returned in success and happiness!

Concerned Humanitarian:

We are planning to hold GREEK AID ’07, an awareness rally on September 23rd in support of Greek Fire Victims at Athens Square Park in Astoria. Our goal is to familiarize the public with the devastation that is impacting people of Greece as a result of the devastating fires and to rally support in rebuilding efforts. While these efforts will require fund-raising, our first initiative aims to rally support through the presence of public officials, key dignitaries and media coverage. Certainly, we would welcome and encourage that public officials and dignitaries attending to offer words of encouragement to help us promote the event and rally support.

The event will feature a moment of silence to observe the loss of life caused by these devastating fires, to be followed by performances by the Greek American Folklore Society among other Greek Societies in the area, as well as traditional music and words of encouragement and support from notable attendees. We are also willing to work with other groups to make this and any other events succeed.

We are a non-for profit organization called GREEK AID, we are in the process of raising money to help Hellenes in Greece and individuals that have been affected by natural disasters for now and health matters that come to this country for treatment in the future.

We are looking to help and raise money for these people and aim to maximize the funds that can be delivered directly to the individuals in need by minimizing overhead and administrative percentages traditionally associated with other organizations.

Considering our concern that funds might be diverted for such overhead, we do not want to go through government officials or agencies. Our organization’s members are willing to help this cause by offering their personal time in making sure monies get to the source, since the majority of us travel to Greece on a frequent basis.
